Inspect piston crowns (4) to be sure they are clean and free of foreign material.

Inspect head gasket surface, counterbores (5), and seal grooves (6) to be sure they are clean and
free of foreign material.
(9)
Inspect counterbores (5) for burrs or sharp edges.
(10)
Inspect screw holes for accumulation of water or foreign material.
