6-13. CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - Continued
(8)
Tighten 10 cylinder head screws (11) to 100 lb-ft (136 N.m) in order as numbered. Apply a steady
pressure for two or three seconds at the prescribed torque to allow the bolts to turn while the
gaskets yield to their designed thickness. Repeat the tightening sequence to 100 !b-ft (136 N.m) at
least once, because the first bolts tightened in the sequence may lose clamp load during tightening
of the remaining bolts. Mark the position of each bolt head in relation to the cylinder head profile
face. Turn each bolt, in sequence, 90 from the original mark on the cylinder head profile face. Try
to turn each bolt in a single 90 arc with one pull of the wrench, if possible. This completes the
operation. No further torquing is required.
(9)
Install eight fuel tubes (13 and 14).
(10)
Tighten 16 nuts (15) to 1 lb-ft (13.6 N-m) using fuel
line nut wrench (Appendix B, Section III, Item 24).
NOTE
Fuel rod is installed through cylinder head.
Left and right bank fuel rods are installed
differently. Step (11) covers installation of left
bank, step (12) covers installation of right bank.
(11)
Lift connecting pin (16) 3/4-in. (19 mm). Install
left bank fuel rod (17) to control link operating
lever (18). Install screw (20).
(12)
Connect brake retarder wire (21) to cut wire
with butt connector (Item 27, Appendix E).
