c.
Assembly.
(1) Install new seal (19) in base (17).
(2) Install new base gasket (18), base (17) with bearing (20), and six base bolts (16).
(3) Torque six base bolts (16) to 32 ft Ibs (43 Nm).
(4) Push shaft (13) downward through bearing (20) and seal (19) until bearing shoulder on shaft is seated
against bearing.
(5) Soak friction discs (11) in Dexron II (Item 12, Appendix E) for approximately 10 minutes.
CAUTION
Friction discs (11) and separator plates (12) must be stacked in
the same order as they were removed.  There must be a
friction disc (11) located on each end of the stack.  If a
separator plate (12) is placed against the piston (4) or spacer
(15), the unit will overheat and seize up.
(6) Install spacer (15).
(7) Install friction discs (11) and separator plates (12) in case (6) on shaft (13).
(8) Pour Dexron II (Item 12, Appendix E) into case (6) until fluid level is even with top friction disc (11).
(9) Install new upper O-ring (8), upper back-up ring (7), new lower O-ring (10), and lower back-up ring (9).
(10) Gently push piston (4) into case (6).
(11) Install springs (5) in piston (4).
(12) Install new cover gasket (3), and cover (2) with bearing (21).
(13) Install and alternately tighten four 12 point capscrews (1).
(14) Torque four 12 point capscrews (1) to 110 ft lbs (149 Nm).
d. Follow-on Maintenance.
(1) Install swing brake (see para 5-54).
