Inspect front balance cover for cracks, dents and other damage. Replace cover if damaged.

Inspect vibration damper for dents and damage and for wear to mounting hole. Replace damper if
damaged.

Replace gasket.

Installation.
(1)
Install new oil seal (1) in cover (2) with lip of seal (3) pointing inward. Use a suitable driver and
press seal into cover until seal is flush with outer surface of cover. Coat inner lip of seal with grease
(Item 1, Appendix E).
(2)
Coat new gasket (4) with grease and install gasket on cover (2).
(3)
Align dowels (5) on cover (2) with holes in end plate (6). Install front cover (2) on end plate (6).
(4)
Install three screws (7), washers (8), lockwashers (9) and nuts (10). Tighten nuts to a torque of 35 to
39 lb ft (47 to 53 Nm).
