Installation.
(1) Place front cover (7) on wooden blocks. Lubricate gears (11 and 12) with engine oil (Item 20, Appendix
E). Install gears in cavities of front cover (7).
(2) Install oil pump cover (I 0) in position over gears (11 and 12). Secure cover with eight self-locking
screws (9). Tighten screws to a torque of 13 to 17 lb ft (18 to 23 N.m).
(3) Install key (8B) in crankshaft and slide drive hub (8A) over key and onto crankshaft.
(4) Install a new gasket (8) on engine block and position front cover (7) on block.
(5) Lubricate oil seal (13) and crankshaft oil seal expander J22425 with engine oil (Item 20, Appendix E).
Install oil seal expander in seal (13) and use it to pilot oil seal around crankshaft as front cover (7) is
installed on engine block. Remove oil seal expander.
(6) Secure cover to engine block with lockwashers (2, 4 and 6) and screws (1, 3, 5).
(7) Tighten screws (1) to a torque of 25 to 30 ft lb (34 to 41 N.m). Tighten screws (3 and 5) to a torque of
80 to 90 ft lb (108 to 122 N.m).
d. Follow-on Maintenance.
(1) Install crankshaft vibration damper and pulley (see para 6-25 and 6-26).
(2) Install oil pump inlet (see para 6-44).
(3) Install oil pan (see para 5-27).
(4) Connect batteries (see para 4-114).
