(20) Remove ten screws (15) and five bearing caps (12).
(21) Measure width of plastic gauge with measuring strip. Width must be no more than 0.006-in. (0.152
mm). If greater, replace bearing shells (11).
(22) Wipe plastic gauge from five main bearing journals (6) or bearing shells (11) and apply lubricating oil
(Item 10, Appendix E) to those surfaces.
