b. Cleaning and Inspection.
WARNING
Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 is potentially dangerous.  Avoid repeated and
prolonged breathing of vapors and skin contact with the liquid. Do not use near
open flame, arcing equipment or other ignition sources. Always wear eye
protection and protective clothing. The flash point of P-D-680 is 100 to 138 deg. F
(38 to 59 deg. C).
(1)
Clean all metal parts with dry cleaning solvent (item 3, Appendix E).
WARNING
Compressed air used for cleaning purposes will not exceed 30 psi (207 kPa). Use
only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment, goggles,
shield, and gloves.
(2)
Dry all parts with compressed air.
(3)
Inspect all parts for damage.
(4)
Replace damaged parts.
c. Installation.
(1)
Using oil seal installer (Appendix B, Section IlI, Item 70), install new oil seal (6) with seal lip
facing rear cover (5).
(2)
Install dust shield (4) in rear cover (5), flat side first, so rear edge of shield is flush with surface
of rear cover.
(3)
Install output yoke (3) on output shaft (2)t
(4)
Coat threads of output shaft (2) and retainer nut (1) with lubricating oil (Item 10, Appendix E).
(5)
Install retainer nut (1) on output shaft (2). Tighten nut to 600 to 800 lb-ft (814 to 1085 N m) with
lock socket (Appendix B, Section III, Item 71).
d. Follow-on Maintenance.
(1)
Install drive shaft (see para 5-7).
