6-42. ALTERNATOR DRIVE

TOOLS REQUIRED
EQUIPMENT CONDITION
Tool Kit, General Mechanics, Automotive
Alternator Belt Removed (see para 4-135.)
(Appendix B, Section III, Item 1)
Driver Side Air Intake Removed (see para 5-1 1.)
MATERIALS/PARTS REQUIRED
Lubricating Oil (Item 1 0, Appendix E)
Seal Retainer (Item 6, Appendix E)
Dry Cleaning Solvent (Item 3, Appendix E)
a. Removal.
(1) Block alternator pulley (1) to prevent it from turning. Remove nut (2). Use a suitable puller and
remove pulley (1) from shaft. Remove key (3) from shaft.
(2) Remove screws (4 and 5) and lockwashers (6) and remove retainer (''-with bearing (8) and spacer
(9) installed.
(3) Remove shaft (10) from engine. Remove coupling (1 1) and hub (12) from blower drive shaft.
Remove key (13) from shaft.
(4) Remove retaining ring (14) from bore of retainer (7). Use a suitable puller or press and remove
bearing (8) and spacer (9) from retainer (7).
