This section contains information on the maintenance of the transfer case assembly that are maintainable at the General Support level. 6-1 8. TRANSFER CASE REPAIR. This task covers: a.  Disassembly b.  Repair c.  Assembly INITIAL SET-UP Tools Materials/Parts General Mechanics Tool Kit Cleaning Solvent (Appendix D,  Item 54) Gear Puller Shop Towel (Appendix D,  Item 55) Magnet Lubricating Oil (Appendix D,  Item 37) Drift Lubriplate (Appendix D,  Item 34) Alignment Tool (Kelsey Hayes 866 271) Bolt Thread Sealant (Appendix D,  Item 47) Arbor Press Transfer Case (872 165 005) Rubber Mallet Equipment Condition Para.  Condition Description 4-159  Transfer Case Removed 4-159 Transfer Case Installed DISASSEMBLY a. If  any  mounting  brackets  are  still  attached  to  the transfer    case,        remove    them    before    beginning disassembly. NOTE Be   sure   the   outside   of   the   transfer   case   is   clean before beginning disassembly. A gear puller may be required to remove the yoke or companion flange. b.    Remove companion flange or yoke on upper and lower shafts by removing locknut and washer. Discard locknuts and washers. NOTE Carefully wash with solvent (Appendix D,  Item54) and relubricate all bearings with lubricating oil (Appendix D,    Item  37)  as  removed  and  protectively  wrap  until ready for use.  Remove bearings with  pullers  or  in  a manner    which    will    not    damage    bearings    being reused. c. Remove   the   capscrews   and   lockwashers   secur-ing main   case   cover   to   transfer   case.      If   neces-sary, lightly  tap  cover  plate  with  a  rubber  mallet  to  loosen and remove. 6-95
