Unpacking
When a new or reconditioned M17/M18 or M17A1/M18A1 Fire Control Quadrant is received, be aware of
any shipping damage to packaging materiel. Report any damage on SF 364, Report of Discrepancy (ROD),
as prescribed in AR 735-11-2. Retain packaging materiel for future use.
Checking Unpacked Equipment
1.
Inspect the equipment for damage incurred during shipment. If the equipment has been damaged,
report the damage on SF 361, Transportation Discrepancy Report.
2.
Check the equipment against the packing slip to see if the shipment is complete. Report all
discrepancies in accordance with applicable service instructions (e.g., for Army instructions, see DA
PAM 738-750).
3.
Check to see whether the equipment has been modified.

Check M17/M18 or M17A1/M18A1 quadrant (1) for dents, scuff marks, bare spots, missing parts, and
missing lock wire. Inspect M17/M17A1 quadrant for cleanness. Check for missing or illegible
instruction plates or identification plates.
5.
Check counter windows (2) for moisture. Look for broken, cracked, or chipped glass.
6.
Operate correction knob (3). Check that operation is smooth without binding or rough motion.
