Install the Pitman arm (paragraph 4-221).
l.
Remove the plugs and caps from the steering gear and hoses.
m.
Install the hoses to the steering gear.
n.
Torque hose fittings to 25 ft-lbs (34 N m).

Pitman Arm Puller (J-29107)
Engine OFF
Internal Snap Ring Pliers (J-4245)
Transmission in (N) neutral.
Steering Gear Pitman Shaft Oil Seal
Parking brake and micro-brakelock set.
Installer (J-6219)
General Mechanics Tool Kit
Material/Parts
Crocus Cloth (Appendix D, Item 10)
Power Steering Fluid (Appendix D,
Item 14)
Seal (7826470)
REMOVAL
a. Mark the position of the Pitman arm to the
Pitman shaft (1).
b. Remove the pitman arm using the pitman arm
c. Position a drain pan under the steering gear.
d. Remove the retaining ring using the internal
snap ring pliers.
e. Start the engine and full turn the steering wheel
to the left turn position for one or two seconds at
a time. This will force the Pitman shaft seals (2)
and washers out of the housing).
f. Stop the engine.
g. Remove the Pitman shaft seals (2) and washers
from the Pitman shaft (1).
