TM 5-4210-220-34 1 2-17.   FUEL TANK - Continued (b)     Large    hole    leaks    (1/4    2    in.        (6-50    mm). Roughen up area around hole using sandpaper or file.  Smooth edges of hole using a  round  file.    Install  a  patch  of  aluminum  at least 1/2 in (12 mm) bigger than the hole.  Lap weld the patch to the outside of the tank. (c) Cracks  in  flat  area:    Roughen  up  area  around crack  using  sandpaper  or  file.    Install  a  patch of  Aluminum  which  is  at  least  1  in.    (25  mm) wide and at least 1/2 In.  (12 mm) longer than the crack.  Butt weld the patch to the outside of the tank. (d)     Cracks in weld:  Grind out filler material in the area of the crack.  Extend crack at least 1/2 In (12 mm) into adjoining weld.  Smooth edges of the weld area with a file and remake the joint. (7)     When the weld is complete seal all openings in the tank. (8)     Connect a regulated air supply with gage to one opening. 2-155
