TM 5-4210-220-34 2-19. ENGINE - Continued 2-19.3 Rocker Cover. This task covers a. Removal b Installation TOOLS MATERIALS/PARTS Tool Kit, General Mechanic, Automotive, 17, Appendix B Engine Oil NSN 5180-00-177-7033 5149510 Rocker Cover Gasket EQUIPMENT CONDITION Main Engine Shutdown (see TM 5-4210-220-12) APU Shutdown (see TM 5-4210-220-12) Batteries Disconnected (see TM 5-4210-220-12) Both Engine Covers Removed (see TM 5-4210-220-12) NOTE Two similar rocker covers are Installed, one on the left bank cylinder head and the other on the right.  The instructions below may be used for either cover. REMOVAL (1) For  right  hand  rocker  cover  removal  only, remove   exhaust   elbow   from   turbocharger as detailed in TM 5-4210-220-12. (2) Clean  the  rocker  cover  and  engine  around the cover. (3) Loosen  both  cover  bolts  (1)  and  washers {2). (4) Lift up rocker cover (3), and remove gasket (4). Clean gasket groove in rocker cover. INSTALLATION (1) Press the stem side of the T-shape gasket (4) down into the groove at the four corners of the cover.  Press the remainder of the gasket into place in the groove.  Do not put oil on gasket or in the groove. (2) Lubricate the flat face of the gasket and the cylinder head rail with engine oil (item 17, Appendix B). (3) Place the rocker cover (3) flat down on the cylinder head, install bolts (1) and washers (2).  Tighten bolts (1) to 1 5 ft lb (20 Nm). (4) Reclamp exhaust elbow to turbocharger, if removed. 2-172 ( 2-173 Blank)
