W M S A B 36 TIE ROD AND TIE ROD ENDS: Inspect tie rod end seals for indication of damage and ensure seals are properly seated.  Inspect tie rod for bends, or serious dents.  Check turning torque between ball stud and ball cavity, should be greater than 5 in. lbs (0.5 Nm).  When wheels are turned, the tie rod should move smoothly. Replace any parts found defective.  (If tie rod is suspected of being bent, check front wheel alinement.) 37 AXLES: Check front and rear axles for obvious signs of oil leakage.  Check vent lines are firmly fixed and vent is open.  Check operation of the 4-wheel drive and differential lock system. 38 BRAKES: Check operation of service and parking brakes.  Inspect all brake shoes for wear.  Shoe lining should be at least 1/4 in. (6 mm) thick.  Check and adjust slack adjusters as required. Check all hoses for leaks or chaffing.  Replace as required. 39 AIR DRIER: Check air reservoirs for moisture.  A teaspoonful or less is normal.  Check air drier is securely mounted.  Inspect hoses/fittings for leaks. 40 AIR DRIER: Check operation of purge valve in bottom of air drier.  Check for proper operation of the check valve mounted in the air drier supply port. 41 AIR DRIER: Replace air drier dessicant and oil filter.  Refer to paragraph 4-22. 42 BRAKE VALVE: Lubricate all pedal moving parts with light engine oil (item 17, Appendix E). Apply 2 drops of oil between plunger and mounting plate.  DO NOT OVER OIL. 4-14 Interval
